Juniper Navigate and Juniper Decode are built for struggling readers in grades 3 through 12, and accessibility is part of that mission, not an add-on. Our products aim to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA. This page describes where we stand.
What we support today
Every student-facing instruction, passage, and word in our products includes professionally produced audio narration. This is our primary accommodation, designed for the students we serve: struggling and dyslexic readers who can see the screen but cannot yet decode the text on it.
All lesson and screener activities are fully keyboard operable. Answer choices, letters, and word segments are real buttons with correct semantics, including radio group behavior on screener items. Screen readers announce item advancement, feedback, and completion through live regions. Forms are labeled, focus indicators meet non-text contrast requirements, pages carry descriptive titles and landmarks, and a skip link is present. Animations respect the reduced motion setting on the student's device. Interface text, links, and controls meet AA contrast requirements.
Known limitations
Our instructional color system, which marks vowels, syllable types, and morphemes with specific colors, uses hues that do not meet the 4.5 to 1 contrast ratio on light backgrounds. These colors carry pedagogical meaning in our curriculum and are kept consistent across products by design. Students who have difficulty perceiving these colors are supported by the audio narration that accompanies all instructional content.
Manual testing with assistive technology is ongoing. Automated and code-level audits are complete across both products.
