1. Who We Are
Juniper Reading CoLab is a product of Juniper Consulting LLC (“Juniper,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). We build structured literacy tools for teachers and students in grades 3–12. Our products include Navigate (diagnostic screener and scope-and-sequence viewer), Decode (structured phonics intervention), and related instructional applications.
This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use any Juniper product or visit juniperreadingcolab.com and its subdomains.

2. Information We Collect
Information Teachers Provide
When you create an account or subscribe to a Juniper product, we collect:
- Email address
- First and last name
- School or district name (optional)
- Role (teacher, administrator)
- Payment information (processed by Stripe; we do not store credit card numbers)
Student Information
Teachers create student records within Juniper products. We collect only:
- Student first name (or initials, at the teacher’s discretion)
- No last names, email addresses, student IDs, dates of birth, or other personally identifiable information
Students do not create accounts. Students access Juniper products through system-generated access codes provided by their teacher. We do not collect any information directly from students.
Information Generated Through Use
When teachers and students use our products, we collect:
- Assessment results and screener responses
- Lesson progress and mastery data
- Session timestamps and duration
- During a screener, Navigate records the time each item is answered and the general type of device and browser used (for example, laptop, Chrome). It does not record IP address, precise device identifiers, or location.
- Browser type and general device information (for technical support purposes only)
Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect student email addresses, phone numbers, home addresses, or Social Security numbers
- We do not collect audio or video recordings
- We do not use advertising trackers or sell data to advertisers
- We do not collect location data
Website Analytics
On our public marketing website (juniperreadingcolab.com), we use Vercel Analytics — a privacy-preserving, cookieless pageview counter provided by our hosting platform. It records aggregate pageviews and traffic sources. It does not use cookies, does not record user sessions, does not capture keystrokes, and does not capture form input values. We do not use any third-party analytics tools on this site or on any Juniper product (Navigate, Decode, or Coach). We do not send student data to third-party analytics under any circumstances. Visitors whose browsers send a 'Do Not Track' signal are respected — Vercel Analytics honors this signal by design.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and operate our products (assessments, lessons, progress tracking)
- Process payments and manage subscriptions
- Send transactional emails (trial confirmations, billing notifications, account updates)
- Send product updates, feature announcements, and instructional tips related to your Juniper products
- Improve our products based on aggregate, de-identified usage patterns
- Respond to support requests
We do not use your information to:
- Display advertisements
- Sell or rent your data to third parties
- Build marketing profiles of teachers or students
- Target teachers or students with behavioral advertising
You may unsubscribe from informational emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email. Transactional emails related to your account and billing cannot be unsubscribed from while your account is active.
4. Third-Party Services
We use a limited number of third-party services to operate our platform. Each handles only the minimum data required for its function:
| Service | Purpose | Data Shared |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, authentication, server functions | All application data (stored in US) |
| Stripe | Payment processing | Teacher email, payment method, subscription details |
| Resend | Transactional email delivery | Teacher email and first name |
| Vercel | Website and application hosting | No user data stored; serves static files |
| Vercel Analytics | Website analytics (marketing site only) | Aggregate pageviews and traffic sources; cookieless; no session recording, no form input capture |
We do not use advertising platforms or data brokers. Analytics run only on our public marketing website — never inside Juniper products. We do not share student data with any third party for any purpose other than operating the service.
5. Data Storage and Security
Where Your Data Lives
All data is stored in the United States, hosted on Supabase infrastructure in US-East (North Virginia). Supabase maintains SOC 2 Type II compliance.
How We Protect Your Data
- All data is encrypted at rest and in transit (TLS/SSL)
- Database access is controlled by row-level security (RLS) policies that enforce role-based access — teachers can only access their own students
- Authentication sessions use secure, HTTP-only cookies
- Service credentials are stored as encrypted environment secrets, not in application code
- We do not store credit card numbers (payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe)
6. Cookies
We use cookies solely for authentication. When you log into a Juniper product, a session cookie is set on the .juniperreadingcolab.com domain. This cookie:
- Maintains your login session across Juniper products (Navigate, Decode, and other subdomains)
- Does not track your activity across non-Juniper websites
- Does not contain personally identifiable information
- Is removed when you log out or when the session expires
Our public marketing website uses cookieless analytics and sets no analytics cookies. We do not use advertising cookies of any kind.
7. Data Retention
Active Accounts
While your account is active and your subscription is current, we retain all teacher and student data necessary to provide the service.
After Trial Expiration or Subscription Cancellation
Student data is retained until July 31 of the current school year (August 1 – July 31 cycle) or 90 days after the trial or subscription ends, whichever is later. This ensures that teachers who trial or subscribe mid-year retain access to student progress data through the end of their school year.
We will send you an email notification 30 days before any automatic data deletion.
On Request
Teachers may delete individual student records at any time from within the application. On request, we will perform a complete hard deletion of all student data associated with your account. To request deletion, email hello@juniperreadingcolab.com.
8. FERPA Compliance
Juniper products are designed to comply with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Data minimization: We collect student first names only. No other student PII is collected or stored.
- Teacher authority: Teachers create and manage student records. By creating a student record, the teacher represents that they have the authority to do so under FERPA’s “school official” exception or equivalent institutional authorization.
- Access controls: Row-level security ensures teachers can access only their own students’ data. No teacher can view another teacher’s students.
- Right to deletion: Teachers may delete student records at any time. Parents or eligible students may request deletion of educational records by contacting us at hello@juniperreadingcolab.com.
- No re-disclosure: We do not share student educational records with any third party except as necessary to operate the service.
- Data Processing Agreements: Schools and districts requiring a formal Data Processing Agreement (DPA) may contact us at hello@juniperreadingcolab.com.
9. COPPA Compliance
Juniper products are designed for use by teachers with students in grades 3–12. Students do not create accounts, provide email addresses, or submit any personally identifiable information directly to Juniper.
All student records are created and managed by teachers. The only student information stored is a first name (or initials) entered by the teacher. Because Juniper does not collect personal information directly from children, and because teachers act as the authorized representatives of their educational institutions, Juniper’s data practices are consistent with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
